Photolog

My random life, infront of the lens.

Look at me...

This is one of my favorite photos from my trip. This man had no idea I was going to take this image, it appears that he is angry, staring me down, and has a look of disgust on his face as if taking his image is the absolute most invasion of privacy. When in fact he is just working. The man looked my way by chance. I was in China town and there was an argument going on behind me. One man yelled "LOOK AT ME" I already had this man framed up, shooting from my hip (literally) and took the photo as he glared at the man behind me. The man in this image didn't even see me, he looked through me as if i was not there. "An image is worth 1000 words." This is a very true statement, the trick is knowing what words are real.......

A beautiful lie....

I'm Terrible...

Well it appears that I have been ignoring my website/blog for quite some time now. Unfortunately I have been extremely busy lately, and it has not been in the photo side of things. Over the next few days the plan is to post a few of my favorite photos from my recent trip to Philadelphia.

Here is the first.

Path to the city...

Look....

It's nights like this, where I can see something that makes me smile. These are the reasons I carry a camera, to try to capture moments in time that make me think, remember, and grin ear to ear. This sticker has been here for years, and I have taken other photos of it, but something about tonight just made me smile. Hopefully it's contagious, and you catch it.

Just the way you are....

Getting caught up.

I have been on a 6 week travel schedule for my work. Now that I am home for a while its time to get caught up and add some updates. Keep your eyes peeled for some travel photos and portraits.

I am also debating on doing some personal challenges, such as 1 lens 1 week 10 images. For now I will leave you with an image from a recent session.

Dust Storm...

AMAZING!!!! I am still trying to pick my jaw up off the ground. While on a business trip in Tempe, AZ this crazy dust storm; known as a Haboob, rolled in. Granted this is an iPhone pano, but its all I could grab to get the image. Still in awe of the power of this spectacle.

Photo Walk...

It's been WAY too long since I posted anything.

So I will post more than just one photo! These were recently shot on a local photo walk  organized by my friend DeAngelo. Learning, laughing, and having a blast describes the night the best. The next one can't come soon enough!!

Just a little color.

Random Beauty...

Random walks always seem to generate some of my favorite images. Today I decided to take a little jaunt around Downtown Sioux Falls and look for some spots for future portraits. In the process of dodging raindrops, and construction cones this caught my eye. Three young children were putting the finishing touches on this, and I could not resist sneaking a couple shots.

Little pleasures...

I met with a friend tonight to pick my brain about some stuff he has planned for the future. Some banana bread and Joia kept me company until he arrived.

so good....

Today is the first day of having my camera with my most of the time. This is something that has been planned for quite some time now. The amount of photos that have been missed, or captured with my iPhone are abundant. This will come to a stop. Now this does not mean my iPhone will no get plenty of use, I love my Instagram too much for that to happen.

Speaking of Instagram, please follow me @jonseaton.

Icepocalypse 2013. Day 3...

So after 2 days of crazy ice and rain, we were awarded 6 inches of snow... Again this is the craziest Spring in a long time.

Icepocalypse 2013

We are currently having the craziest storm of the year. Rain, ice, sleet, thunder, lightning, and up to 8 inches of snow are now possible. This may be the craziest spring I have ever witnessed.

calm.

My son is 7. getting him to take naps at this age is like trying to get a postal worker to deliver on Sunday. This was one of the few time where he voluntarily said he was taking a nap. When I went to wake him up he looked so peaceful, and the little bit of window light coming in made for a nifty scene.

Out came the camera with my Canon 50mm F1.8 and took a few snaps. The ISO had to be pushed to 800. Since I am still shooting with a 50D the noise was horrible in the photo. Thankfully between Lightroom 4 and Topaz DeNoise I was able to bring the image to a presentable quality.

I was torn on leaving the image original or adding a "filter". The original us much warmer and the one with the split toning really seems to tone that down a bit and be more inviting. it also brightens it up a bit without being overwhelming. Both are included in this post, tell me what you think. leave a comment and give your opinions. They are always appreciated.

Full of hot air...

Now this looks like a fun time.

This is something that is on my bucket list. Hopefully riding in one of these will happen soon. Now lets just hope I can keep my camera down long enough to enjoy the ride.

Thanks for visiting.

check out all that green!

So while looking at my Google analytics page, I noticed that this website has been viewed in 49 states (come on Alaska!!) and 34 countries!! This is all since the first of the year. Thank you to ALL that have, and continue to look at my work, and view my page. Never did it cross my mind that in less than 60 days would my images reach this many individuals. Now lets see if we can get it to over 100 countries by the end of the year!! Please feel free to like, share, bookmark, and comment on my page. People like YOU, yes you; as in the person reading this, are the reason I post my work for all to see.

Again, thank you, and hopefully you will keep coming back to see what else is up my sleeve.

A view from above

This was taken on my last trip out to Portland, OR. I loved how the clouds looked flowing over the mountains. There are more shots that may, or may not get posted at some point.

The working man...

The working man

While shooting a fat little squirrel in my front yard, my new neighbor walked by. Didn't get his name, but he did say that his father was an Air Force photographer back in the day. He mentioned spending many days and nights in the darkroom with his father. He has no idea the shot was taken, and I am debating on printing it and setting it at his door.

The reason I took this shot, was because of how he looks, dirty, disheveled, and worn. This is the look of a man that has not had an easy life, or things handed to him. Grease on his hands, dirt on his shirt, and a comb in his pocket. This is not a man the average person would strike up a conversation with, but I bet he has some fun stories he could share, while having a couple drinks from that bottle.

lazy day

Lazy day shot, taken by my son.

My son and I decided to have a lazy day due to the impending SNOWPOCALYPSE. As usual I was tinkering with my camera and left the fisheye on. My son started playing with it and took this shot of me nerding out on my computer.
